Fiscal Year 2023

This was our organization’s first year. On April 1, 2023, three members, Todoroki, Uesugi, and Takizawa, launched the voluntary organization “NTDs Youth Association” with the support of the Reach Out Project. Following a meeting with Dr. Ibrahima Socé Fall (Director of the Department of Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases) of the WHO, we had a year of expanding our activities with the support of many partners.

Visit to the Lao People's Democratic Republic

March 20 to 27(Sepon District, Laos)
I visited the Lao People's Democratic Republic. I visited educational institutions such as universities, research institutes, government ministries, and JICA maternal and child health project sites to gain a deeper understanding of the current situation of NTDs and efforts in the health sector from a multifaceted perspective.

First Neglected Tropical Diseases Student Contest

January 30 (online)
As the executive committee of World NTD Day Japan, we held the first Neglected Tropical Diseases Student Contest. A total of 35 teams (79 participants) applied, and the winners were selected through a final screening held at Yamagami Kaikan at the University of Tokyo. 10th Nikkei-FT Infectious Disease Conference

October 16-18 (Tokyo)
We participated in the NTDs Subcommittee and Keynote Session. We introduced the activities of NTDs Youth and NTD Day, and discussed the development of human resources for infectious disease crisis management. The conference is archived and available on the Nikkei-FT Infectious Disease Conference website.

Asahi Earth Conference 2023

October 12 (online)
We participated in the Asahi Shimbun's “Asahi Global Forum 2023.” In a session titled “Planetary Health Frontline: Climate Change and Infectious Diseases Today,” with Planet Editor-in-Chief Takeshita served as coordinator and participants discussed the topic from various perspectives. GOALKEEPERS 2023

September 19-20 (New York)
We participated in Goalkeepers, hosted by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. We interacted with leaders who are working hard to achieve the SDGs. During this event, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida received the Global Goalkeeper Award. For details, please refer to the press release from the Gates Foundation.

NNN Conference 2023

September 19-21 (Dar es Salaam)
Attended the NNN Conference 2023 held in Tanzania. This conference is hosted annually by the Neglected Tropical Disease NGO Network (NNN) and this year marks its 14th edition. Kondo participated in a panel discussion composed of youth members from Youth Combating NTDs.

Global NTDs Programme Partner's Meeting

June 12-13 (Geneva)
We attended a WHO partner meeting held in Switzerland. The meeting reviewed progress toward achieving the WHO's roadmap for 2030. With over 300 participants, it served as a major catalyst for collaboration toward the eradication of NTDs.

Meeting with Dr. Socé Fall

May 16 (Tokyo)
We held a meeting with Dr. Socé Fall, WHO Director of NTDs, to exchange opinions on advocacy activities related to NTDs. Dr. Fall was very friendly and shared his experiences working as a doctor and at the Ministry of Health. We also agreed to continue our collaboration.
