【Contest Guidelines】
① Overview
January 30th of every year is “World NTD Day” recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO). Although NTDs are called tropical diseases, they are often associated with Japan. Some NTDs still exist in Japan. In addition, not only the Japanese government but also many companies and organizations are contributing in a wide range of ways, such as developing and manufacturing treatments and research.
The purpose of this contest is to raise the youth generation’s understanding and interest in NTDs, and to think about what we can do. The contest will be held as part of the international “World NTD Day” related events.
② Themes
Category A: Easy-to-understand communication category – Do you know what NTDs are? ~

Category B: Category for thinking about what Japan can do ~ To eliminate NTDs ~
<Submission> An essay of 2000 characters or less that touches on the following three points
The significance of us who live in Japan contributing to NTDs
The NTDs issues we want to address and their background
Specific solutions and feasibility

*Both categories may focus on NTDs and may focus on specific diseases that are included in NTDs.
③ Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be students or students residing in Japan who are enrolled in a junior high school, high school, university (including junior college, graduate school, and the Open University), technical college, vocational school (including higher vocational school and vocational school) or equivalent educational institution. *There is no age limit for students.
At least one member of the team must be able to participate in the final judging session on Saturday, January 11, 2025. The final judging session can be attended at a venue in Tokyo or via Zoom.
At least one member of the team must be able to participate in the award ceremony (scheduled to be held via Zoom) on Thursday, January 30, 2025, which is World NTD Day.
To receive the U18 Special Award, all members of the team must be under 18 years of age, and there is a possibility that they may receive other awards, such as the Grand Prize.
④ Application regulations
Works must be in Japanese or English. The choice of language has no effect on the selection process.
There is no limit to the number of submissions, but the number of works that pass the first round of judging is limited to one per team.
Please fill in all the necessary information in the application form without any omissions.

⑤ Application Requirements
Applicants may apply as individuals or in groups, but in the case of groups, a maximum of four people must choose a representative.
The work must be written by the applicant himself/herself, must not contain plagiarism or inappropriate citations, and must not have been published in other competitions or other events.
Applicants agree that photographs and video may be taken at the final judging session and award ceremony for the purpose of public relations and coverage.
Applicants agree that the names and photographs of the winners may be announced by the organizers and constituent organizations, etc.
Applicants agree that the organizers and constituent organizations, as well as the organizers, may use the work for public relations activities in any media they deem necessary.

The Japan Executive Committee for World NTD Day (Secretariat: NTDs Youth Association) has decided to hold the “Second Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) Contest” following last year. The purpose of this contest is to raise awareness of NTDs and promote efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular, we aim to provide an opportunity for the youth generation to think about NTDs as something that concerns them. We are currently accepting applications from companies and organizations that can sponsor this contest, as well as organizations that can participate as constituent organizations.
